WBB recruiting: 2025 PG Aubrey Galvan was on campus last weekend
The Illinois floor general earned a UW offer back in June at Elite Camp.
Thanks to friend of the newsletter BadgerWBBFan, I was made aware of a NUMBER of players that are on Marisa Moseley’s radar out on the recruiting trail that I haven’t discussed yet. So, let’s get started breaking down some potential future Badgers right now!
This past weekend was another home football game, which means it was another chance for recruits from all sports to take a visit to Madison and get a feel for the atmosphere. 2025 PG Aubrey Galvan (Deerfield, Ill.) out of Deerfield High School was among the many women’s hoops recruits that made the trip.
Galvan received an offer back at the end of June after Wisconsin’s Elite Camp and was able to make it up to Camp Randall for the football game against New Mexico State. I saw elsewhere that some of the basketball recruits were also able to catch the volleyball match at the Kohl Center on Friday night against Florida, where an NCAA record was set for regular season attendance at one match. Despite the Badgers falling to the Gators, I’m sure that seeing that kind of support for women’s sports struck a chord with the players.
The sophomore point guard stands around 5-foot-6 or 5-foot-7 and helped lead Deerfield to the Central Suburban League (CSL) conference title game (after winning the CSL North division) and the sectional finals of the Class 3A state tournament.
Despite losing to Maine South in the conference title game, Galvan filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals. She was named to the all-conference team and the Prep Girl Hoops 2K22 17U Tournament first team last season as a freshman.
I gathered from her Twitter account that she also has offers from Minnesota, Loyola (Chicago), Valparaiso, DePaul, Columbus State and SIU-Edwardsville. She plays her grassroots ball for Full Package Elite (where UW men’s player Duje Dukan, who ALSO graduated from Deerfield High School, played too).
OK…I know that watching highlight videos isn’t always something people do for these posts. I get it, they aren’t always super interesting and sometimes you just want to read and now watch. But, I strongly urge you to watch the above clip. It’s just over three minutes and well worth your time.
Galvan is already a magical passer. Her court vision is extremely advanced for someone who has only played one year of high school ball. She reminds me of former Sacramento Kings point wizard Jason Williams. She can get her teammates the ball anywhere on the court via any style of pass. Behind the back, slick backdoor bounce, whipping it one-handed to start a fast break…it’s all in her bag and for a player who is only a rising sophomore? Sheeeeeeeeesh!
Galvan is also an excellent ball handler. The ball looks like it is attached to her hand by a string and she stays low to the ground, making it near impossible to get her pocket picked. Her ability to change speeds to manipulate the defense is also impressive.
While shooting isn’t the highlight (it is still good though and her shot is smooth and repeatable) of her game for me, Galvan has range that extends beyond the three point line and can finish at the basket well despite being one of the shorter players on the court. She understands how to use her body to shield defenders from the ball while she scoops it towards the hoop with her opposite hand.
An opposing coach would probably describe Galvan’s defense as “pesky” or “annoying” which Galvan should take as a compliment. She can get up in her opposition’s jersey and she can also sneak around screens to poke the ball loose.
Galvan is the type of floor general that every team needs. Since she still has three high school seasons left you’d imagine she’ll only improve and become more of a leader, like any good point guard. The Badgers are in early with her and should hopefully be pushing to get her on campus again during the season.
Nice. At this point, I find the women's BB program more interesting and promising than the men's.
Nice writeup (and thanks for the shoutout)!. You nailed it, her handle and passing are filthy (do kids still say that?).
