WBB: UW hires veteran coach Margaret McKeon as new assistant
In a fun "circle of life" moment, McKeon actually coached Marisa Moseley at Boston University.
With news of Scott Merritt accepting the head coaching job at Gardner-Webb over the weekend, the Badgers were suddenly down two assistant coaches in the middle of a huge recruiting stretch. Well, as of Monday morning, Wisconsin only has one coaching position to fill.
UW announced veteran coach Margaret McKeon will be joining Marisa Moseley’s staff for the 2023-24 season. "I am so excited to welcome Margaret McKeon to Madison," remarked Moseley. "With over 20 years of coaching experience, she will make an immediate impact on our players and the program as a whole. A proven recruiter, she will work primarily with the guards, but loves player development, relationships and a family atmosphere.”
In an interesting “circle of life” moment, McKeon was the head coach at Boston University who recruited Moseley to the Terriers. The two of them helped take BU to the program’s only NCAA Tournament appearance back in 2003.
McKeon’s coaching career looks like this:
NJIT, 2007-2012, head coach, 49-96 (.338)
Boston University, 1999-2004, head coach, 70-77 (.476), one NCAA Tournament appearance
George Washington University, 1995-1998, assistant coach; 1998-1999, associate head coach
University of Houston, 1993-1995, assistant coach
Arizona State, 1991-1993, assistant coach
McKeon played college ball at Oklahoma before transferring home (she is from Queens, N.Y. and played high school for national powerhouse Christ the King) to play for St. John’s. She was an All-Big East guard and set the Big East single-game assist record with 18, a record that still holds today.
